341 Matahiwi Road, Masterton

At the start of the millennium Matahiwi Barn was a derelict 19th century farm building collapsing in a paddock less than ten minutes from Masterton and a little over an hour and a half from Wellington.

Today it’s a meticulously restored, sublimely comfortable, four-bedroom, three-bathroom country house that accommodates up to nine guests.  Perfect for an indulgent  weekend or week away, Matahiwi Barn is also ideal for intimate weddings, small conferences and team bonding and private and professional social events.

Inside – Persian rugs, antiques, blissfully comfortable sofas and chairs, entertainer’s kitchen, farmhouse dining table, original artworks, books, piano, sound system and a hefty wood burner.

Outside – verandahs draped with grapes and wisteria and roses, flower borders, statuesque trees, a venerable plum and apple orchard, walnut grove, hundreds of trees and a lily-lined water race straddled by a picturesque arched bridge.

Here, birds of all feathers flock together – operatic magpies, melodious tui, glossy kereru, every kind of garden songbird. At night, you’ll hear the moreporks call.

You reach us via a quiet country road meandering through peaceful pastures and pretty hedgerows towards the magnificent Tararua Ranges. And once you’re here, you’ll never want to leave.
