Create a gem of a wedding in the exquisite setting of Matahiwi Barn from the start of October to the end of May.
Raise a marquee for up to 80 guests on the reception lawn or dispense with canvas and set your tables directly under the trees. (Wairarapa weather is generally settled in summer but can be blustery in spring.)
Exchange your vows on one of the verandahs, among the flower borders, on the lawns, in the old orchard, under the walnut grove or beside the water course, where statuesque lilies and a delightful arched bridge make a charming a location for photographs. (Of equal interest to wedding photographers – one of sculptor Geoff Thompson’s iconic corrugated iron cows and the weathered woolshed over the farmer’s fence.)
Alternatively, marry in church. Matahiwi Barn may feel deep in the countryside but a lovely ten-minute drive through peaceful pastures and English hedgerows takes you to the heart of town.
The walnut grove provides unlimited parking.
Our basic wedding weekend package provides venue only. This includes the four-bedroom house, a lovingly restored 19th century stables, and its precincts. Unless by arrangement with the Matahiwi Barn events co-ordinator, the bride and groom are responsible for hire and/or purchase of all necessary goods and services including alcohol, marquee and caterers.
